The Short Film Post

I need your help!!!!  A couple of years back I began writing.  I really like it, it’s become one of my favorite things to do.  One of the first things I tackled was a short film idea I had.  I had a great climax scene and a good ending – but that was it.  Writing became more of a hobby and creative release for me and I found myself moving on to other things.  I have written a lot of stuff – but I always wanted to go back and finish my short.  I wanted to finish it because I also wanted to shoot it – to make it a reality.

Not too long ago the muse got ahold of me and I finally got my short film script where I want it.  I have begun putting it into the hands of a few people to get feedback and I have given it to some confidants who will help make it better.  We are currently on the third revision of the script!  We are tightening it up and prepping to shoot which is where we are currently stuck.

The short is called “The Convenient Short” and if I had to describe it one line this would be fitting:

When a convenient store in a small southern town is purchased by an outsider, tensions rise and the locals find out there’s more to this foreigner than meets the eye.

I promise it’s funny (I got feedback remember!). It has been accepted well by all of the people who have read it (which is a plus! +).  But like I said – I am kind of stuck.

Let me share the good stuff first! First, thanks to a friend my main location (a convenient store) is secure! Secondly, I am currently negotiating for the use of equipment that would be mostly free.   I know I have awesome friends.  I have also come close to completely casting the film.  There are still a couple holes to fill, but we are getting close.  Here’s where I will share the bad.

Unfortunately some of those actors and actresses aren’t close, and some of the equipment will cost.  Also, I would like to be able to help take care of fiscal needs of those taking days off to make this a go.

SO  . . . this is a plea for help!  If you can give anything to the cause it would be much appreciated!  The ROI on a short film is normally not great. You will get a thanks in the credits and  my intention is to enter it into film festivals once we have finished post.  If it does bring anything, (online sales, prizes, etc.) I will share and share alike with those who have helped.

If you are a lover of the arts and gift big ($1,000 or more) guess what?  You’re now an Executive Producer! Yeah – may be dreaming on that last one.  If you’re like me that’s not real.  But any $5, $10, or $20 donations would be appreciated!  Any little bit helps!  The goal is to film in Locust Grove, OK in March 2010!  YOU CAN DONATE ONLINE HERE!!!

Hey Ben, it's Brook. We spoke on the phone today. Since you mentioned you had a lot of clients I thought I'd look you up and see if we might be able to help each other out. It's great to hear you have a project you're working on in film/video. I'd love to be a part of it if you need some extra hands, all volunteer work of course.

2 things, I love Film/Video and enjoy the editing process. I've filmed/produced/edited local commercials and short films in California before I moved out here. I have advanced knowledge with After Effects and the rest of the Adobe CS3 suite. I've done camera work off and on since 1998 and can help with just about any duties you may need filled on set.

Like I said I love this type of work and I miss it. If you need an extra hand you have my number.

Sweet Brook! Sounds awesome . . . always love to have more hands on the set, especially people who have experience. Our crew will be kind of small so we could us the help . . . I'll definitely keep you up to date with the happenings . . . .

I myself am a Final Cut Studio person . . . I can use After Effects though I prefer Motion. I may be the only one, but I can't get enough of it. I did Video Production in Vegas for a few years and I miss doing regular production projects myself . . .
